SPRUCING UP THE POOL AND PLAYGROUND

May 20, 2006

The Kensington Farms Volunteer Work Committee is working again! On Saturday, May 20, nine members of the Work Committee cleaned and painted the Pool Houses and Cabanas. For good measure, the Work Committee also rebuilt all of the park benches at the Playground and Cabanas.

The Pool House exterior walls got a good scrubbin’ and fresh paint. The Cabanas were also cleaned and painted. This project is complete just in time for the Pool opening – Saturday, May 27. Take a good look at the Pool and Playground areas – the results are great!

Special thanks go out to KF resident and “Pool Boy” Chris Kirby for his efforts to organize the Pool and Playground Project.

Thanks to all our Volunteers: Bill, Chad, Chris, Curtis, Kate, Dave, Derek, Seth and Shannon. Give the Work Committee a pat on the back when you see them. Then offer a helping hand…or a cold drink!

Stay tuned for future Work Committee community volunteer events!

Community Mulch Day A Huge Success!

April 23, 2006 – The Kensington Farms Volunteer Work Committee held their 1st annual “Mulch Day” on Saturday, April 22nd. Over 30 volunteer Kensington Farms residents were blessed with a perfect day and spread over 80 cubic yards of mulch. Go take a look at our common ground flower and shrub beds and the playground – the results are great!

The Association planned to budget $6,100 for spring mulching by a Contractor in 2006. The Work Committee saw an opportunity to save money for the Neighborhood, and volunteered to do the mulching. The volunteer labor cut our budget estimate for mulch to $3,500. The final cost of the mulch was even LESS – approximately $1,800.

The volunteer Work Committee saved the Neighborhood $4,300!

“Mulch Day” also included spreading over 25 cubic yards of much-needed playground mulch at the pool playground. Lunch and drinks were donated by Kensington Farms’ own Ron Franklin, candidate for US Congress.

“Today’s turnout definitely exceeded my expectations, I’m extremely pleased,” said Kensington Farms master board president and work committee chairperson Chad Cannon. Chad thanked Indiana Mulch for giving Kensington Farms a discount on the material. “They (Indiana Mulch) were great to work with” said Cannon.

Special thanks go out to Mike Proctor and Chris Kirby for helping out the effort with the use of their trucks and trailers. Also thanks to Brad and Doug for the use of their trucks.

Thanks to all who volunteered, and stay tuned for future fun money-saving community volunteer events!

“Neighbors helping out their neighborhood”

Well the time is getting near for the work committee to start planning all the projects. As you can see I have added details to all the projects we will need to complete this year. Now what I would like from all of you is what items do you want to be involved with. The mulching of the beds I would like this to be more than just the work committee, this should be something the whole neighborhood could do, so lets start spreading the news about this project and get you neighbor fired up to move some mulch! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call me.

You can sign up for any project by entering your Name, Email, Item to the right.

Mulching- We have1 trailer with truck and 3 more trucks, if you have or would like to volunteer another truck let me know. Also please email me and let me know if you are going to help.

Edging -Need people to volunteer for this. I was planning on doing the Tolliston sidewalk and bike path, who wants to help with the rest?

Paint Cabanas - Need people for this as well. No one is signed up for this yet.

Replace Wood - Need someone that works good with wood and has the equipment to do this. I have a saw but my wood working skills are well lets just say we don't agree..

Paint Street Signs - We have 3 People for this but would always like to see more.

Paint Basketball court - We have a design but need some help with this. Maybe even some more game ideas.

Pressure Wash Fence - I think we got this one covered, Mike will supply truck/trailer, Chris has 250 gallon water tank, will rent pressure washer.

Thanks
